It took photographing at three locations, in the morning and afternoon, before I captured this shot. (I was not sure I would be successful capturing any pretty shots of our little river this time of year - it's very brown and the river barely moves - you can see a bit of the stagnant water in the foreground.)

But after about thirty minutes of shooting I captured a photo with three trees and their reflection at a different part of the river. There were many distractions in that photo, but it led me to keep trying. I ended up with several shots I really liked from that day, but I think this was my favorite. (Or at least it showed off the river the best.)

Regarding your other comment-
Scenes like this are tricky, as you have warmer late day light and cool shadows. If you warm things, you will overcook your oranges and reds (especially on the Nikon sensors I've experience with), but keeping them as is will look unnatural. The solution is to warm your shadows selectively or set for your shadows and cool your highlights. I would recommend warming your shadows as my experience has been that Nikon sensors have better leniency on the cool end, not the warm.

Nice reflections but not a particularly captivating scene.

This is a bit flat in terms of color and contrast. I also think the white balance is a bit off. It looks chilly, but I think this could benefit from a warmer look. No harm in using cloudy white balance even tho it's not cloudy. 6
