I did not look at this challenge before rollover but now, as I just came back from an art gallery tour, this image strikes me as extremely painterly. I love the hesitating posture of the man. As you locked the sides of the image, there is no way out for him!

stunning. don't know the reference, assuming there is one, but this is so reminiscent of David Blackwood's etchings in perspective and delivery. plus Escher and you get Kafka.

The jagged spikes of the posts as they run out of the frame steal some of the magic of the illusion. A bit of clone to tie the frames together would have made this a much more complex puzzle.
