Photographer’s Notes
I am reminded of Indiana Jones, “Why did it have to be snakes. I hate snakes.”

Took a trip to the reptile house of Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo. It was Sunday morning, foggy, drizzly, and cold. And the f’ing zoo was overrun with families with kids in costume collecting candy at each exhibit. Getting close enough to the snakes to photograph them was quite a challenge; took a lot of patience.

Spent some time talking to a herpetologist (snake person) who had a snake on her hand and variously around her neck. Took a few photos but made the mistake of not paying close enough attention to the background. In expert editing, I could make something of these, but not in advanced.

Did I mention the light? The cages were dimly lit and the most interesting snakes were moving around. The ones not moving around were uninteresting by definition. The D800e has very good low light performance – which saved this effort.
