Yes, another gritty self-portrait. I seem to have a face that only B&W likes. And lots of shadow too :) Anyway, this was originally supposed to be an entry for Classic Books based on a a book called "Butcher's Crossing" by John Williams and was going to be titled The Butcher. I decided it wasn't recognizable enough a book, so shoehorned it into this challenge, and surprisingly it did well.

Lighting
Was quite simple, just a single soft flash shot through a white umbrella. Nothing more than that. Some of the light bouncing off a nearby wall probably provided some fill light too.

Processing:
- Dead easy processing
- Import into LR3
- Crop to size
- Global adjustments to Exposure and Fill
- Export to CS6
- Convert to B&W with SEP2
- Apply Wet Rocks preset
- Apply blue filter
- Global adjustments to Brightness, Contrast and Structure
- Selective adjustments to Structure and Contrast on knife and eyeball
- Send back to CS6
- Duplicate layer
- Edit in CEP4
- Apply Detail Extractor Preset
- Send back to CS6
- Blend SEP2 and CEP4 layers together (normal blend mode)
- Send back to LR3
- Some Dodge&Burn on existing highlighted/shadowed areas
- Apply Contrast to knife
- Spot remover
- Curves Adjustment
- Save for web

Hahaha..love the comment by tvsometime! Not much of a butcher's knife is it. Really not all that threatening unless you're a vegetable :)

So full of menace! Well done. I've bumped this a couple of times and now it's in a ribbon spot. 10

Scary but I think it's the wrong knife for the job unless he's slicing tomatoes. Voted earlier.

Great image! I wonder how it would look with a much tighter crop.
