Darn grey snow. lol. I just liked this shot. Nice and simple. It was either over exposing the clouds or underexposing the snow. I chose the grey snow. This shot is taken in a potato field. I could not see anything over the horizon, so I parked my car and froze my butt off for about 3 minutes taking picture.

Jacko, I love the simplicity of the moment and the strong contrast of images. The contrast of foreground and sky also elevates this work in my opinion. The only negative is the base of the tree right on the edge of the picture. It follows the same guidelines of never having a persons feet or head touching an edge. Drop the ground down an 1/8th of an inch and you have a 10. JG

Great job! One of the best picture I've seen on dpc. The contrast is just perfect. Excellent composition. I'm not used to giving out 10's unless the picture is perfect. And this one is. 10!

There seems to be some results of over-sharpening on the tree, but i really like the simplicity of the photo, and the high contrasts. 8

Very dramatic image! Curious to see where this photo was taken. Did you shoot in infrared to get such a dark sky? composition, contrast and frame are excellent. Well done!

This is totally awesome. I love the way you added some depth to it with the plant in the foreground, and this picture makes me think of an Ansel Adams. Awesome! Also this photo would not have been as cool without the texture at the bottom of the page in the (sand?) Very well done! One of my 10's for the week. Congrats and good luck!

Stark mood captured very well. The vegetation in the foreground and the clouds really add interest. B&W is good choice for this.

Now that's a keeper and for the livingrooms wall! I like what I see although I have no detailed idea what I look at and were exactly it is. But it does not matter!
The cloud (water, fog, dust?) in the back is just awesome, the piece of dark sky frames it and gives structure. The structure of the sand (beach, water?!) is just in the right way: in the front it gives an interesting texture and in the back it gives the basis on which the more important clouds settle. And the branch in the front is wonderfull: it catches the eye but does not take over. For me a winner, lets see what the other think. Good luck.

I like this, very simple. Desert? looks like snow or water. Wish the branches werent so broken up, guess compression did this. I like the dark sky.

Very nice photo! Would have been interesting to see in color as well. My only complaint is the boarder; there is a little too much of the white for my taste. 7 =-)

i like the simplicity of this image. i also like the clouds in the background rising from the edge of the land. great composition. the border is a little overdone.

Black and white really works for this shot, it really makes the tree pop. Is that really desert or snow? Those clouds look so menacing they engulf the horizon. I really think this shot is great and the tree is what really makes it. Without the tree it is just clouds and land, with the tree it is art. 8.

very striking, can't work out if it snow sand or just dustiness. I figure snow?

B/W works very well here

It looks like the surface of the moon. I think it would've been a more effective pic to put the little tree or branch not so prominently in the foreground. A subtle change to the composition but maybe very effective in terms of mood. The camera angle could also help. It'd be interesting to see from sand level looking up at the stick. Good Luck - Inspzil

I like the idea of the stark image, but the clouds look very odd - the way they run into the horizon and that is distracting me rather too much.

Nice simple shot. I love the clouds. It looks like at big storm coming in and that poor tree is going to get dumped on again. Good luck!

Pretty interesting... however the B&W takes away from the dessert feel I think and makes it look more like water. I like it however anyway.

personally, i'm not a big fan of b&w for landscapes (yes, i know of Ansel Adams, i'm still not a fan ;), but i guess this is one of the pix that i can actually work for. gives it an even more desolate feeling. i like the sky, the contrast of the white clouds against the black at the top, and the tree definitely gives your eyes something to focus on. i think i would like to see all of it though. the white border works well, the black around that does, too, except i think it's a little too wide.
