 Light painting done by combing a number of exposures of partially lit exposures (blend in lighter mode in Photoshop, mask out crap when necessary) to result in a (hopefully) interestingly lit image. Finished product below:



There are seven partially-lit images layered in CS6, blended in lighter mode and masked as need be, then I clone out sensor dust (f/16 is not my fav), adjust levels, straighten building somewhat with distort tool, straighten doorjam somewhat with distort tool, adjust levels again clean up lens flare and a few other nasties too small to see in this view and that's it. I'm looking to make a scene that would take dozens of images :-) I aspire to create something on the level of this fellow's work

Nice stuff you're creating, such fun doing it too. There are light painting tours in the American desert that I've seen advertised. The link is wonderful as well. I've been dabbling in this, but not enough. I did it with long exposure in the dark setting off the flash by hand in though it is a lot harder tripping around in the dark and cloning myself out, and creates strange shadows.
