We were getting wood and I came across this spider. I've never seen one and neither has my husband. Now I have to do some research to find out what it is.
Okay, I found it. It is Missulena Occatoria
or red-headed mouse spider. It's range is most of mainland Australia except for southern Victoria (the area where I saw it would be classed as central Victoria). This is the male, the female looks similar but is all black. Apparently she stays within her burrow for most of her life, which is a good thing, because she produces copious amounts of venom and if she bites it will HURT!

I've got a feeling that people might think that I've enhanced the colour but I haven't. The rock really is pink (there is a huge variety in the rock colour in this area) and the twig really is reddish.

EEEEEEEEEEEEkkkkkkkkkkksssssssss ok I voted earlier, gave u a score I've never given a spider shot before! LOL, It is amazing and I hope this sucker is in some foreign, and no where in the US and for Heavens sake NO where in the Midwest... Cause I'd DIE if I saw one of these!
