This is one of the newly-morphed Damselflies next to my little pond. She was trying to hide from me, so I shot this through the leaves of a daylily. I liked the light and shadow as I shot it; when I played with converting it to B&Wish I fell in love. Such a distinctive face behind her! And a smaller, less distinct one in the upper left corner. The soft, framing leaves are cool, too, but they worked in color. The image as a whole works best for me in duotone.

I never quite know what constitutes art for anyone else, but for me, an image that is so rewarding to explore is something I would love to have on my wall. Even if it is just a picture of a bug. And modern ... well, I just took it ;-) By definition it's contemporary!

PP - converted from RAW, cropped, levels, CEP (detail extractor mostly on Damsel, pro contrast), converted to B&W, toned blue, cloned out a few dust spots and one bright thing (I think it was the end of a flower stem ... too bright where it was), resized, Nik sharpen, cloned out slight haloing, added border. |
