After the 1906 earthquake, there were some interesting ruins. This portico was all that was left of a mansion. Rather than discard it, the portico was donated to the City where it found a new home in Golden Gate Park. Was the pond built later? Or did it come first? If I ever find out, I'll post the answer here.

I'm not sure what I think of that - it looks kind of dislocated. Although I suppose the history is as important as the aesthetics. As Jen says, I can see it being popular for wedding shots being taken there.

I can just see all the wedding photos taken there. It's nice that it wasn't discarded.

It seems somewhat lonely without a building, but it's nice it still exist.
