Thanks - I got one with the green face as well (breeding coloring, I believe?). But I had seen some photos of the White Herons and thought they looked similar, especially the plumage. But I've only been doing this for a few weeks so I defer to those of you who know much more than I do. :)


You are doing great, ID on some birds can get tricky.

Great detail in the tail feathers. It's such a beautiful bird. I saw them for the first time this week.

Great photo - love the little snack in the mouth.

Have you considered White Heron? I know there is controversy about White Herons - but some believe it may be a subspecies.

Those long plumes, very long neck, combo of long yellow bill and black legs make this most certainly a Great Egret. Great shot. My only confusion is from what appears to be plumes on the head. Not supposed to be plumes there. But, they aren't real long, so it's likely just some molting feathers or a bad hair day. LOL!!!!
