Just saw a cowbird in my feeder with another bird - thought it might have been a female cowbird - now you've settled that ID for me. This is a lovely shot - the background sets her off beautifully. |

I agree with female, Brown-headed Cowbird. That solves the size dilemma. The beak is a great match. It's a good match with the field guides on female Brown-headed Cowbird. Good job!

I did look that up at "michigan audubon website" and didn't look anything like this...but after doing search for this bird on Web, I think you are correct with that ID. thank you

If it's that much larger, how about a female Brown-headed cowbird? I think the beak looks more like the cowbird than the finch. I'm very new to all of this so I could be wrong, but that's my guess. |

Looks like a female House Finch, Haemorhous mexicanus. Plain head, short bill; curved culmen, blury grayish streaks, gray-brown overall with indistinct streaks. There are no immatures or juveniles in your area (or my area). So, I think female House Finch is a logical guess. |
