I'm coming back for another look - I really like this photo, it eases my soul to see the skies and the buttes competing for majesty with this small human-made structure standing guard. It is humbling.

I'm not qualified to comment on your technique, but I feel there is a lot going on. I think it might be the combination of the rocks in the front and the stars in the sky. I'm not sure. I really like the middle part of your image :)
