This was lit from below.
The lap top was turned upside down, so the screen was horizontal. The cranes which are folded from cellophane were sitting on the screen. The camera was slightly below the screen to get rid of any light spilling in. I merely panned with the camera to get the "blur" and made sure there was enough exposure time left to get the actual birds sufficiently exposed - yes, it was a bit of trial and error :-).
