An African Iris take in a nature reserve with a portrait lens ;-) Soft and a little blown out I was going to enter this in the Shez Challenge but wondered if voters would really appreciate those "flaws". Much of Shez's work was non conformist, beautiful, but her own style and Post Processing. I decided I had a better more representative image that suited both her likes and that of the general DPC'er.

Any comment or critique; complimentary or critical are welcome and appreciated. Questions about gear, technique etc. also welcome.

The colors are beautiful, bright, saturated, but not too saturated, and they work together well. The crop, also, I think is really quite nice. Just enough negative space to set off the flower, which is interesting in its own right. I think you are correct, though, about the softness and the blown out bits. Because of the softness, the blown out parts are barely noticeable, but if there was enough DOF for the flower to be sharp, it would be quite apparent that there are parts of the flower that are blown.

I'm not sure what I think of the bug. I suspect you were focusing on the bug, because that's where the focus plane is. But I think the flower would stand on its own without the bug, and the bug is a distraction from the lovely flower.
