3 comments about the slant, f'ing dpc voters and slanted horizons

this is the high peak its hilly, i dont live in the netherlands or the great plains.

if the horizon was 'level' as you preceieve it the sheep would be at an 30 degree angle and the wall and the gate post would be at an angle defying gravity!!!

theres a gate post right there thats true to vertical!!!!@! ;)

This is an amazing shot. Maybe the color could be toned down but either way it's excellent.

I think your purple problem is to do with the bad colour handling in most browsers. I bet you are editing with a wide colour gamut monitor. You won't see it until you look with a browser. It happened with me when I used SFW in Photoshop without checking the 'embed colour profile' box.

(It was a 10 from me by the way)

Fair point about horizon - I thought I was being anal when I commented on it not being straight. This was my favourite of the challenge

Haha my little rant was feb 7th day 1 of the challenge it does seem seem dpc voters are very concerned with horizons, do hills not exists in other areas. Especially given the fact they are hill sheap, the dry stone walls the depth of snow etc all point to a hill. I rushed this as I was late and not sure why the purple came in when I saved for web ill upload bigger one.

Was a cold cold day blowing 50 to 60 mph :) 1dx and sigma 120-300 2.8

I think I counted 5 comments about th horizon, not 3.
This was the my only 10 in this challenge. Great shot and processing.

Well done Giles. OK, your comments about the tilted horizon made me laugh - I couldn't agree with you more!

I love this - probably my favorite capture of the challenge but I just don't understand why the horizon is tilted. Unless you are trying to say it was so windy you couldn't even hold the camera straight? If that's the case, I don't think you needed to convince me. 9

Difficult to convey the windiness of such a landscape but the hints of atmospheric disturbances are there and the huddling sheep drive the impression home. This is advanced editing so you could have cloned out the large distracting line sticking do rudely in from the lower right edge.

Lovely picture. For me the purple vignette does not work and I would like the horizon level. Hey it could be a hill….love the snow and the sheep.

Great shot, depicting the harshness of winter perfectly. Could have been my #1 shot, but the blotchy dodging/burning (most visible in the thumbnail) puts me off.

Quite an interesting image. At first the pinky/purple color cast was distracting, but on second look it's grown on me! Lovely image, would absolutely hate to be the sheep! 8 from me!

Wonderful flock of sheep . I see the big snowdrift to the left... so in effect the stone fence acts as a snow fence. Powerful winds in evidence. I'd like the image a lot more if the horizon tilt were not a distraction. Still, this tells a magnificent story of domestic animal adversity in winter. 7

Love it. Don't think it needed the off kilter angle. It's dramatic enough without it. I also would have liked to seen it without the vignett, the sheep are strong enough that they really don't need anything to draw your attention to them. For me it, the vignette sort of pulls my eye away from their condition. It's a very nice shot though.

Superb shot! It looks cold up there on the moors. Wondered if horizon would have been better straight but think it works fine as it is and not one for having to follow rules. May be just the incline of the land anyway.

What a great find and wonderfully shot and processed. Wasn't sure about the titled horizon but it doesn't seem to distract from the image so I guess it's intentional.
