Actually I could have entered this for simple pleasures as he loves cutting wood but many see it as a chore so I thought it best to enter it here.

Actually I used to limb the trees when we used spruce back in Canada - here I put them in the splitter and then stack them - which is why I have been laying low - tendonitis, a rather sever case set in and the doc nicely explained to me I am not in my 40's anymore - she was being kind lol.

We have all the free wood we want - that particular one is a manzanita which burns lovely and the inside looks as red as a redwood - we also have oak and redwood to burn - the guy we rent from builds logging roads and as long as we all pitch in, gives us our wood for free. I love the smell of the freshly cut wood - even if it also smells like gas and oil mix lol

Thanks to all who left comments and I am glad to see how many understand the joy I feel watching wood being readied for the fire - Harvey, I am so glad I triggered those memories for you - nothing better than a wood fire I agree for cooking and heating.

I appreciate this moment. Nice tight action and flying sawdust, vibrant earthy colours around the bright chainsaw. We didn't have an electric stove growing up on a sheep, cattle and vegetable farm and my father and my brother and I had to fell trees, cut and chop and pack. Backbreaking work. But the reward of sitting next to an open fireplace and a meal cooked on a wood fired stove! Even the geysers were heated from the pipes running through the stove...aaah thanks for triggering those memories for me!

Great light and color and I love the flying chips/sawdust.
BTW, I'm enjoying Trapper Boy.

Grand action shot, and excellent placement of that bright orange saw.
Good one, Maggie.

Cutting wood is one of the most pleasurable things in life. I don't do it now, but when I was a kid, the family would go out and cut and stack wood. Wonderful memories. Hope you are feeling better now.

I can see this as a simple pleasure :) I so love a fireplace and fire pit. I just love sitting by the fire. Fantastic capture and story to go with it.

But before you can light your fire and relax there's some hard and noisy work to be done.

Besides being technically sound, this just has a positive vibe to it. I like.

Your photo has a sense of happiness to it. The bright colours, the energy of the splinters flying in the air, the prominent veins, the happy yellow dirty gloves ... all very joyful!

You guys make your own wood? We have to buy ours, or "scavenge" from the burn lots. :) My husband LOVES to chop wood! I end up carrying the stuff. I was telling him recently that I could get a job of wood gatherer/carrier at some sort of "ancient life society".
