"Hot" as in sex. And competition (as Ursula observed) which is also a part of sex.

The colours are wonderful and I like the shallow depth of field (achieved at f/10 – I wonder how it would look at f/2.8?). I really need to get a macro lens.

Pretty colours and nice dof selection/compo. Would like to see it UE by about a stop. Maybe a tad hot, however who am I to say your choice wasn't High Key-ish?

Very close. Beautiful hot colours. On first impression, I found that the shapes of the pistils and the larger stem in the middle (the thing growing out of the middle of the pistils), seem to compete, because the skinny pistils have a left to right flow, whereas the large stem has a right to left flow. I hope that makes sense. They collide in a not so terribly beautiful manner at top right third. Not sure what to make of that thought. The light flows from left to right, and sort of abruptly stops at the right hand side of the picture. It might be a bit hot. I do like the outlines of the little ends of the pistils (I hope that's what they're called).

Oh, look at those gorgeous colors! Great variation between sharp detail and background blur
makes this one a winner in my book.

The cactus are so beautiful. Mine aren't blooming anymore :(
Love the detail you have captured. Nicely done.

You're getting deeper into this Christmas cactus every time. This starts to turn into an abstract by now. The highlights seem a bit blown and now no longer carry the characteristic color.

So is that 1:1, or are you using extension tubes or close up lenses? Impressive, regardless.

Taken with a 1:1 macro lens. This is a 100% crop of the image.

Ah, that makes sense. I knew it had to be closer than 1:1. I don't think I've ever seen a Christmas cactus in quite the same way.

I love the way the details of the stamen pop out from that smooth blur of a background. Beautiful color.
