I hope to get back to the field - it's close to where I live so it fits with my chosen theme of outside my mountain home.
The rainy cold weather has brought out more wildlife than normal but next time I will have the 7D with me.

Thanks all for the comments - Ann I sent you the original .. I have other shots with him in it .. some with his tail in different positions - we'll see if I get around to editing them
Thanks again Ann for your excellent editing of my beast - yes, Alice he had lots of room to walk into but I have to get over this need to show my critters up as close as possible.

opps Ursula - no I checked the wrong drop down box - sorry about that. I had the 70 to 200 but wished I had of had it on the 7D - you can get very close to them as long as you don't make eye-contact. Never stare them down and stop walking towards them as soon as they get up and look at you. Many years ago I hunted - wouldn't think of it now but it was part of my culture and deer, rabbit and partridge were stables. Now I shoot them with a camera. :)

Harvey - I really appreciate your comments - thank you for taking the time to really taking a good look too. One day my hubby and I want to travel to Africa - not just for the fantastic photo ops but because I just feel in my bones that I was meant to spend some nights sitting outside with a good fire going, listening to the sounds of the marvelous creatures who come to life after dark.

I envy you who have regular access to such outdoor life. What's this - a bobcat perhaps. Good capture.

This is a great capture and I particularly like the way you’ve captured it mid stride and staring at you.

Capturing true wildlife in it's natural environment (not 'nature' in a zoo) always gives one a sense of accomplishment and pleasure. Nice look in the eyes, paw lifted implying haste, escape, movement, even down the tufts of hair on his ears. Good WB and does not appear to be overly PP.

I am being repetitive but I think it is a very fine shot of a beautiful cat and you've captured his
gestalt beautifully.

My goodness, Maggie. You got this close to this animal with a 24-70? I would be scared stiff, to say the least. In the outdoors, I am cautious, always, about animals, in particular bears because we have so many of them around where I live. But I am not scared of bears. However, cats, those I fear. They scare me a lot! I have only seen them in the wild a few times, but I keep my distance and try to seek cover as soon as possible, always. I am not sure why I find them so frightening. Maybe it's their eyes. Or the way they seem so playful, and yet, move so fast, and totally look like hunters all the time, whereas bears often look like grazers. Anyway. Beautiful photo, great catch!

Gorgeous bobcat, for sure. good detail and great eyes.
Would like to see just slightly more habitat for the critter to walk into,
but sometimes, that's just not possible to get.

Beautiful cat, so well captured. It feels over-sharpened to me, too, but then maybe he did have that glisten-y look - my shots of the blue monkeys at our zoo always look over-sharpened even when I haven't sharpened at all! clearly this is wonderfully in focus, Maggie.

Beautiful cat, great sighting. And well captured. Nicely positioned in the focal plane. Maybe a bit more sharpening than I'd like.

This is a great shot in really difficult hard light. You should be proud of this one. Without seeing the original, I couldn't tell you how to improve it. If you'd like to put the original somewhere, I could take a crack at it and see what I can do with it.

I have seen bobcats before but never fully out in plain sight. Wonderful capture.

Well, wow! I can't tell you how you could have improved on this. I would be stoked if I could get a shot in the wild like that. (But I might be too scared to stand and take photos of wild cats.) I love the detail in this, especially the yellow eyes.
