Taken from PCH just south of Faria Beach in Ventura County. The landmass on the left is Anacapa Island, on the right is Santa Cruz Island. The object in the center is an offshore drilling rig. I think it's Platform Grace.

I like the composition, the two land masses and in between a tiny wee boat. How lonely can you be on sea?!

I was just about to say the same thing. I do enjoy the minimalism of this shot.

Certainly captures the vast (almost) emptiness of the sea.

So lonely! I really like the movement of the waves at bottom left!

The long exposure did a great job on the water. Nice shot.

As soon as I viewed this shot I remembered the Fisherman's prayer I used to have tacked up in my old boat. It was a 28 foot cape islander minus the sturdy shelter usually found covering the wheelhouse - I fished out in the Atlantic for cod using a Norwegian jig - anyway, this is the prayer and it seems suitable if one didn't know it was a drilling rig.

Fisherman’s Prayer
Dear God, be good to me; the sea is so wide, and my boat is so smallâ€Â¦
AMEN

I like how it's framed on both sides by land masses and the vast sky adds to the feeling of the boat being not much more than a spec.

This is very minimalist indeed. Like all other commenters I started with the thumbnail in the forum, and that shows no more than a fairly heavy vignette on top of what looks like a horizon - not much to tempt me to look more closely. In the picture the sea is interesting, the horizon strategically positioned, there is a nice left to right balance and a point of interest right in the middle. The sky shows hardly any detail, yet occupies the larger part of the picture. Lots of room to fill the space with your own memories and fantasies.

Suche vast lonliness in the photo. The b/w tones add to the feel. Nicely done.

This has a great feel to it. Looks like something you would see in a World War I documentary.

Maybe a little too minimalist to hold my interest. I do like the water.

The right processing, and even Southern California can look like the middle of the North Atlantic... I like the texture of the water.
