Photographed from a place on Trail Ridge Road near tree line, about the same elevation as the mountain range to the north.

It was an amazing night sky on 01/24/13 at 3:12 AM. f/5, 435s, ISO 100, lens focal length 35mm. That is the Mummy Range on the north side of RMNP. From left to right: Chiquita, Ypsilon and Fairchild. Mostly, I wanted to document our weather situation. The snowpack is less than 50% of normal. The peaks look like they normally would in June or July. It was very mild overnight. I didn't need gloves. It was perfectly quiet and I saw no other humans.

Better size here.

After the voting.
I'm pretty much disappointed, but I like the image a lot. I am standing at 11,000 feet above sea level, looking down to the Fall River drainage, which is 3000 feet below. By the way, the low point in the valley below is at a higher elevation than the highest point in Australia. And, I'm standing 3000' feet above the river gorge. There are more precipitous dropoffs around, but not safely accessible in winter.

5.8x? Despicable. Certainly DMC. I bet the 47x below average 5 or less voters couldn't make it up the climb to take the shot never mind getting up early enough to arrive at 3am. I suppose you had to be atop a gorge looking down into a river?

This just doesn't give me the feeling of being on high, sorry, nice pic though, but a different angle would of looked better. 6
