Just before black-powder hunting season starts, the hunters sight in their rifles to make sure they fire and aim properly. Black powder shooting involves measuring the grains of gunpowder into the barrel (muzzle) of the rifle, adding a pad and then adding a ball of appropriate size. This is all tamped down hard, and then a cap is placed in front of the hammer. If all goes well, when the trigger is pulled, the hammer hits the cap, the spark ignites the powder and the ball is ejected with a loud boom and a plethora of smoke. It is a difficult process to shoot (at least for me) because I jump when the gun is fired, and I blur more shots than not. I don't expect a super-high score for this, but it does document an annual ritual for my guys.
