Chocolate brown colored Black Bear boar. He was about 400# and was headed for Lumpy Ridge. Bears scare people, but they are perfectly harmless. In early June, there are plenty of other wild animals to predate. They avoid people. Black bears are not grizzlies. The drawback of this image is the suburban background. I entered another frame in the "Dead End II" challenge. It received 43 votes below 5. It was at that point that I knew not to take the DPC votes too seriously. I would note that my pp skills have improved since last Summer.

In the wild, it's not common to see black bears during the daylight hours. Also, it's not common to be in position for a front quarter photograph. This was not so much luck, as it was wildlife photography experience. Many people see bears, but only photograph the posteriors, as the bears flee.

eta: I should have mentioned this is a tripod mount shot with shutter release cable. I keep my hands off the camera and lens to help avoid camera shake.

Looks like a teddy bear to me! LOL! Beautiful coat on this one! I've come across some brown bears in the Poconos, but didn't have a camera with me at the time.

What a gorgeous coat he has! Beautiful light, and nice placement of the photographer to get this shot.

I would note that, too.

Very nice captured! Never seen a bear in the wild and I'm happy with that. Once saw a moose in the wild and that was impressive enough for me. Gave you a comment on your challenge entry.

Holy smokes. I have a bit of anxiety about nearly everything these days, but I used to hike fearlessly quite a bit. I agree they're mostly fine as long as you're not between them and their young, or it's early spring, or you startle them, but still... there's no vibration control effective enough for me to get as sharp a shot as this.

Plus, you can find humor in the setting, as papa bear slogs off to work in the forest from his suburban home.

Lovely!! I've seen a couple of black bears in the wild, just make a lot of noise and they run away.

Your lighting and focus are spot on here. Not sure I would be as confident as you - I'd have gotten the shot of the rear end if I got one at all LOL
