Usually, on May 3, the alpine lakes are still frozen and there is a residual 10' or more of snow burying the high country with additional snow falling until June. Not this year. On May 3, the alpine lakes had already thawed and the snowpack was in serious decline. That warm, dry trend is still going seven months later. This is a single image SEP2 conversion. I like it better than the blended HDR color version. This was seven weeks ahead of the event which drastically altered my life and wrecked my year. Am recovering physically and financially, but slowly.

I like this one better too. The contrasts are stronger. I hope you are able to find comfort in visiting beautiful places like this. I'd share a cornfield shot native to my area, but somehow I don't think that would be too soothing :)

A rare instance when I think I prefer the color. I like the black and white just fine, but in this instance the color seems more inviting.

I love Dream Lake. Hiked there a couple of times in the mid 1990s and fell in love with the park. This image is wonderful, with the high clouds to add lovely texture to the sky and the late snow clinging to the peaks. Lovely

Possible an issue with monitor brightness. I see a pretty full range of tones on my screen. Rather amazing scene.

Beautiful! The mountains are so majestic! Love the detail through out.

Well, the histogram shows a full range of tones from 0 to 255. Adding more contrast would blow out highlights and block up shadows. Trying not to be argumentative, but this is a very high contrast image that would be degraded with more contrast. If someone wants to try, please show me what you mean.

This is a splendid black and white, Richard, possibly more dramatic than the color? but the color version is very fine, too. Glad to read that you are recovering physically and financially. The emotional damage from events such as those you have been through (and continue to live as I know how much your mountains mean to you) is often more serious and much more slowly recovered from. Continued good thoughts.

Thanks for your comment. However, I'm totally confused by your comment of "lower contrast here". To say the least, this image does not look "low contrast" in any way to me. Not sure at all what you mean.
