Challenge: Smoke (Advanced Editing II)

Where to start...
original concept was to take a photo of a smoke bubble popping.
yeah right!
Then it changed to blowing a smoke bubble through a black straw with a black background. getting there, but it just didn't have the impact I wanted.

Then it occured to my beautiful wife.

how about from the mouth?

Take a drag from a cigarette, rub bubble solution on her lips, open and slowly blow out. TA DAH! smoke filled lip bubble.

Tripod mounted flash bounced off of the built in bounce card, shutter 1/60, F 11, bubbles, and smoke. took about 6 photos till this one appeared. I knew it was right as soon as I saw it. The backup photo will be posted in my profile.

I love it,
hope you enjoy it too!

Oh, hue, sat, levels, clone, burn, USM,

This is a great shot. I love how the bubble encapsulates the smoke. The lips are perfect.

I thought this was a ribbon winner as well. It was very creative, thought out, and well executed. I wish that I could capture some of my ideas with my camera, as you have done so successfully with this image.

I agree, this is fabulous! Definitely should be in the top 5 if not the top 3. What's with those voters?!

OTOH, I can see how the bit of noise particularly visible in the very edges of the smoke right above the lower lip detracts a little from an otherwise positively fantastic image.

I know you are rather disappointed with your placing. I guess you should be.
There are also people like me who would like to see it placed much higher.
So bigup and show us what you are made of :)
I did see and get what it was and gave it a 9.

Ericlimon: now I see your consternation. This is just beautiful and it fooled us all. Keep up the good work. There are more ideas where this came from. This is so unique I am placing it in my favs.

I think one reason it may be this far down is it is hard to tell what it is. People (including me) don't stop long enought to figure out that this is a bubble of smoke from a mouth (suggesting the 100 votes of 5's and below). Great concept, well executed, but voters didn't see it. Next time =)

i guess the only thing i suck at more than entering challenges is picking winners...i gave this a 10, and really have no clue as to why it finished the way it did. better luck next time!

OK, first pass was a 3! because I honestly didn't see any smoke, nore did I have any idea what this was.

I'm a smoker but not a fan of portraying the dirty habit. (in a sober mood and after downloading and brightening) I understand it, great shot but still looks a little pixelated on my pc.

This image is so strange and stark and it raises such negative emotions in me. I hate cigarette smoke and the taste of someone that smokes; I love a good image. The image is so detailed, in focus, creative and wild - the lips seem suspended in mid-air; the bubble seems so wet; the smoke seems so trapped. The obvious photographic quality pushed me over to the positive side of the ratings in a tug-of-war between my conflicting emotions. Congratulations and good luck with the challenge.

Yuck! A visual on what its like to kiss an ashtray... but an interesting and well captured photo... that meets the theme... I didn't have to like the theme to give it a high score though.

How did you keep from choking? I'm not a smoker so I may not get it. Creative, strange, but creative

I'm really intrigued by this image and look forward to finding out how you did it. Is that a saliva bubble or bubble gum or glass bulb in the mouth? don't know, but I like the result. I like the sparkly lipstick. One one complaint is the cropping - I don't like how the edge of the mouth is cut off at the side of the frame. well done.
