 This is at the Saratoga Battlefield...site of historic battles during the revolutionary war. In the autumn of 1777, American forces met, defeated and forced a major British army to surrender.

What I like about this image is lost at small sizes...click view full size image to see it at 1200 wide, which is much better.

Yes (Alice), there's a lot of foreground. I would consider a crop, but when I look at the full size image, the detail in the foreground is amazing, and it really seems to capture the place the best. I have plenty of nice shots of the trees and hills...this one is really about the foreground (though again it looks better the bigger you see it).

Not bad at all for a compact! 20MP good grief... I'm thinking all those bodies and lenses are a pain in the rear!

Yes, the muddy tones go away with the larger size.

Is there quite a lot of foreground?
Or maybe just a bit more dark-to-light gradation in the foreground weeds?
(not much, just a little)

I don't know about my previous observation, but I do know the far-off crystal clear mountains and the crisp day are splendidly depicted.
That road in the middle distance is perfect to add a stopping point for exploration.
