I had one day to shoot birds so I head off to one of my pefered locations and guess what? I had left behind my 70- 200 zoom lens - disappointed!

I had a few shots in mind that I was going to try and copy, this being one of them, and even though I only had my 50mm prime with me, it actually proved to be okay. I know it is not the same bird but I believe that the essence is the same I tried to emulate the processing (except for the sepia as I didn't like the way it looked with this bird. I'm not unhappy with the results but it is nothing compared to Paul's winning shot.

Excellent image and great result with such a short focal length on a 350D to boot! A bit of pixelation and edge artefacts due from cropping but kudos for not giving up.

Lovely image, and with the white on white a good attempt at emulation.

It's really an outstanding emulation of Paul's image. Nice job on the white on white. 9

Too bad you couldn't get the bird facing you, as that is what I find so special about that image. But still, a tough one to try to replicate, and you did a fine job.

Good shot, breed aside still too different in tone, focus and POV from Paul's image.
