 This is my first FS entry. Took the picture on a sunday walk. Wanted to bring out the colours of autumn (red yellow, brown) but also the leavings of summer (blue, green). And as many apples as possible in different distance from me. More distant ones blurry. I´m not sure whether the picture is too bright or wrongly saturated (got a new monitor, sRGB setting, no calibration possibility) or I`ve overdone with sharpening (High Pass Filter) on the front apples. Added some smoothness to the backgound.

I gave it a 6. Like hahn23 I liked the colors and the fresh, natural look. You are getting some good pointers that I am finding instructive myself. No explanation for all the 2's.

i would have scored it a 3 or 4. honestly its nothing special, its a picture of apples. just becuase yo take a picture of apples with a dslr doesn't mean its going to be great. I do the same thing, my eye says oooh that would make a good picture and when i get home i see it and i wonder why i thought that.

its needs composition, depth, color all to work together your image does none of this, there is noting to draw me in, nothing to hold my interest. i generally vote by how long an image hold my initial interest on first look with my finger on the 3 button for free studies. i would have probably just hit the three and moved on quickly.

I gave you a 7 on this image. I love the natural look. Colors seem natural and pleasant to me. The blurred background is good, but the oof apples hanging around distract slightly. I might have darkened the outside portions a bit. Square formats are not eye-pleasing. Has to be the right subject to go for centered and symmetrical. Your subject is not symmetrical. Overall, this is an okay photo. Can't explain the 2s. Not very nice voters these days.

Manchmal wundert man sich, wo diese Bewertungen herkommen; ein 2er Bild ist das sicherlich nicht. Ich kann mir trotzdem nicht vorstellen, dass an diesem Bild dein Herzblut klebt, also vergiss es einfach und reich etwas Neues ein - fĂĽr Free Study am besten etwas mit mehr mass-appeal.

Nur so zum Vergleich:
Platz 158, ø5.2672, also weit unter meinem Durchschnitt. An der Qualität kann's eher nicht liegen, das stammt aus einem bezahlten Shooting.
Mich ärgert daran nur, dass ich keinen einzigen Kommentar bekommen habe (das zweite mal bei 480 challenges), aber nächste Woche habe ich das auch vergessen :)

Technically a decent photo, but artistically "meh". It looks like a documentary type photo - a newspaper or catalog type shot. Not sure about the high number of 2 votes - that does seem odd, but sometimes there's no explaining voting patterns. Just can't dwell on it. Free Studies are very tough competitions and pulling a 5 for your first try is not bad at all. When I (rarely) enter a FS, I usually ask myself "is this something I or someone else would hang on their wall?". More emphasis on artistic qualities and WOW factor. Hope that helps.

very sharp focus and good control on the DoF. I'd like this better if you got closer and filled the frame with the apples or even parts of the apples or backed up and showed more of the whole scene.
