Last of the Mohicans ~ " Tell them to be patient and ask Death for speed; for they are all there but one - I, Chingachgook - Last of the Mohicans"
A catchphrase cliche referring to the one remaining in a group, series, etc. when all the rest have gone. In origin it refers to a novel by James Fenimore Cooper, The Last of the Mohicans (1836). The expression probably bcame a cliche around the turn of the century. It was formerly used over a wider set of contexts. For example it was once used of the last cigarette in a packet. Nowadays it tends to be used of a survivor of a group that is dying out.
