I figured a candid self-portrait is possible using a computer controlled camera taking pictures at random intervals. One can place it in one's vicinity, and after a while forget it's there. You come back later and choose from the crop. The above is a possible outcome of such a process.

It so happens that one of DPC's most favored image is a candid self-portrait (check out the photographer's note):

Finding other similarities between the two images is left as an exercise to the reader (clue: appeal is not one of them)

So now that I hopefully made you curious, just be aware that it is an open question whether the above image is or isn't a self portrait. Another question is how allowing subjects to select an image to represent themselves affects the candid status of the selected image.

I'd say your camera is sliding off it's hiding place, thus the blur.. hehe.
