When the Long Exposure Challenge was announced I knew I wanted to try to do a light circle. Using Make Light Painting Circles With Light

Getting a good tripod was going to be costly and I didn't want two heavy worklights to boot. So I decided to build my own.

One resin Umbrella Base (fill with water)

One Mr. Longarm 3 - 6 ft. Adjustable Extension Pole (what is nice is that you can adjust the height)

One PVC Elbow joint

One plastic wheel that typically holds chain (Homedepot typically throws these out when all the chain is gone, but it is the perfect wheel)

Two Home Depot wood yardsticks (36 inches in length)

Gorilla Glue

Two Sylvania LED Silver Light Flute Horizontal Light Stick (for the outer blue rings)

Two Malibu LED Solar Pathway Light Bar (for the inner gold rings)

10 black hair bands to hold lights in place

One 6 inch metal pipe for bottom base

1 cup sand to stablize base to prevent wobble.

Once assembled the most frustrating part was doing the shoot.

Why?

Two nights before rollover as I was waiting for darkness, a thunderstorm complete with heavy rain and lightning blossomed right over us! The radar showed we were the only city getting dumped on in 75 miles. ARGGGG!.

It took over an hour for the storm to finish which really cut my time to shoot because I needed the help of the whole family to do this. One daughter to spin the light wheel, my other daughter to hold a light up to my husband, and my husband as the model. The first shoot resulted in very little usable material.

The night before rollover. I have a different light set-up to illuminate my husband, the whole set is set up, my husband dressed, the darkness settles as the sun sets....and I get the stomach bug 25 minutes before I want to go and shoot. Long story short I was NOT going to let this stop me. Keeping myself hydrated, we did the shoot in half an hour with 14 shoots taken. I got my shoots, but had no energy that night to complete any PPing.
