The hummingbirds become very active and less shy towards the end of July and August. The young are now out of the nest and the feeder becomes the focus of their attention. Capturing a hummer in a stopped motion pose that is in focus is a very tricky task. Although somewhat grainy, I was very happy with this shot. As I have described in earlier hummingbird entries, I prefocus the camera on a specific spot and wait for the subject to come into the frame. Just the click of the camera is enough to startle them. Often, they are so quick that they have moved out of focus by the time of the shutter release. This shot was taken in sunlight without a flash.

Just the slightest motion blur on the wings to give life to this beautifully detailed stop action. Lovely. Voted earlier.

Lovely image of the hummer, with correct s/s to get the head still but a blur on the wings. Obligatory catchlight and a BG to die for. A bit dull on the body and a flash with snoot or reflector might have improved that.
