My 17 Year Old Baby's Final Trip to the Vet ~ 08/07/2012 ~ RIP Sassy

Sassy was 17 years old. We got her in August 1995 as a six week old kitten. Unfortunately August 7, 2012 we had to take her to the vet one final time to relieve her pain and she's no longer with us.

We had to do this once before but that was a clear cut necessity. This was much tougher to take and I bawled like a baby several times. I had taken a shot the day before of her, but this one was more poignant.

This shot was taken with my iPhone and the lights are the sides of her pet carrier. Seemed to give it a sci-fi look. This is just minutes before she was gone.

I wanted to use this spot as a tribute to Sassy who was a loving and faithful friend.

I thank God for the time we had together.

Without the title I would just assume the cat was mad about being in the carrier. Can't help but read a different mood after seeing the title. Just lost my 19-year old cat a few weeks ago. My condolences.

This one hits home since about 10 yrs ago I had to let my 19 year old kitty go. I'm sure Sassy had a good 17 yrs.

It sort of looks like Sassy is on the set of Star Wars. I'm sorry to read about your loss.

My condolences on the loss of Sassy. I've had to put several cats down. It was never easy. This almost looks like the a scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Great expression. I like the lights/grill on either side. Border does not work fro me and draws my ee away from you subject. Use the KISS prionciple on borders.

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: Poignant title offers a lens through which to see this image. It's difficult to remain objective, though that matters little as there is much to like here. The clarity of the face and the alert gaze is excellent but I am most impressed on how you have retained detail in the shadows. The vents of the box are transformative to the image, adding depth and context - without them, this would be far less engaging.

Critical stuff: Some won't like the prominent border.

Overall: A fine tribute.

Sorry to hear that, but a beautiful farewell picture.

The title definitely makes this shot a higher vote ..not a cat person...but losing any pet sucks...my condolences...8
the shot is well composed and the black and white treatment was a good choice IMO
