Beau just started swimming competitively last year, and really struggled to get going. By the end of the year, though, he was moving along, and ended up being named most improved swimmer in his age group. He swam this winter in the YMCA winter league and was really pumped up for the summer season to start. He’s done pretty well so far, earning some first place ribbons and setting personal bests in all his strokes. He has a goal of qualifying for the state championships, and there’s a good chance he might make it. If he doesn’t, it won’t be for lack of effort. Beau’s practicing 4 hours a day 2 days a week (2 hours in the morning, 2 in the evening), and 2-3 hours a day 3 other days. He told me the thing he likes the most is, “swimming races at night. You dive in, and all you can see is bubbles in the lights, then you come up out of the water to get air and you can hear everyone cheering!”
