100 years ago, these birds were assumed to be separate species until naturalists observed them raising chicks in the same cavity nest.

This mated pair is delivering ants and moths to their chicks in the cavity nest of an aspen tree.

Sexual dimorphism is a phenotypic difference between males and females of the same species. Examples of such differences include differences in morphology, size, ornamentation, and behavior.

I thought this was a hard enough image to look at, to be honest. I think the lack of a proper division between the two images is what makes it feel off to me.
Definitely tells a story, but it really needed your notes to complete it (you can't really expect us to do research when voting!). I could see this in a nature magazine or something. Still, my head feels fuller after reading your comments and notes, so thanks :-)

I would have liked this so much more if it was more traditionally presented. Two cracking photos, but I just don't like the way the photos are morphed together.

What an interesting choice for this challenge, and the title really explains the shot. I'm guessing Hahn23?
