 There are several different kinds of bamboo plants in the local bamboo plantation. This is one of the least common types.

The Moon Princess, Kaguyahime, was found in a glowing bamboo shoot by an old childless bamboo cutter. When she grew up she was a great beauty but resisted all offers of marriage and was eventually taken home to the Moon by her own people. It's afolk tale from Japan that is one of the oldest proto-science fiction tales from any culture (that is, travel to the Moon).
