This was taken at the Fort Worth Zoo. Picture is straight from the camera (resized for the comptetition).

The pink arc on the left was another flamingo...should've cloned it out.

Critique Club Comment:

Indeed, I agree with most of the comments below, and let me take this time to congratulate you on a 6+ score on your 2nd challenge.
The big 6 (as I call it) is not easy to reach imho, and says something about your photo.
The color of the flamingo is absolutely amazing, and the detail and sharpness (as I understand you didn’t even use USM) is brilliant.
Just let me say that this is realy a pretty picture, and I guess it would look good framed, hanging on somebody’s wall (hint, hint)

Now about some critique:

Yes there are still some things to say about this picture.
Title: I don’t think the title adds something to this photo. I am to lazy to come up with something better now, but it’s long and doeas not realy tell you anything more.

Composition: Good, you didn’t crop, this is what came out of your camera, but maybe, just maybe with a little wider shot, this could be even better. I guess you tried that, and you have lots of pictures of this same bird on your hard disk, and this was the best one, but I would still like to see just a bit more maybe…

As you already said yourself, the other flamingo could have been cloned out, and it would have made the beautiful contrast with the black background even more perfect, but I don’t find it really distracting.

Again, it’s a beautiful picture, and if I where you I would put it up for print, or at least hang it on your own wall.

If you have any questions, comments or other things about this critique, or are bored and want to spam someone just PM me.

Grrrtzzz

Peter

Thank you everyone who commented. I had fun at the zoo the day I took this shot and this guy was a natural photo subject. Kept staring right at me!

Beautiful color.

Really nice image of the bird. Great colors, detail, contrast with back ground, watchful little eye peering at you. Unfortunately, it would just as well be Chicago, Phoenix, NYC, Miami (probably more so, considering all their plastic ones), San Diego, etc. IMHO, the image needs to say something about a "particular" location. Others probably won't agree with me. Good luck with it.

A classic Flamingo shot. Composition, exposure, brilliant colors and dark background combine for a true winner. A catchlight in the eye would make it a bit stronger.

What clarity and color! This is one of the top photos today. What is the reflection? in the back upper left? One of my top picks.

Totally and absolutely gorgeous shot. I'm sure everyone is commenting on the gray something to the left of the beak. What is that? This will go in my favs. Well done. Oh, meant to add that the title definitely needs tweaking.

Very nice shot of a Flamingo! Tack sharp focus is evident with the details of the feathers and the area around the eye. Not sure what the faint pink arc is in the background (reflection?) but that should have been cloned out. 7
