Challenge: Ansel Adams III (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-5D Mark II
Lens: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM
Date: May 18, 2012
Galleries: Interior, Black and White
Date Uploaded: May 18, 2012

This is the interior of an ex-hippie artist who gave me a tour of his deep canyon home in the Santa Ana Mountains. He talked my ear off for 20 minutes about my prior visit reminding me how we talked about my Outback (never happened).

Window reminded me of the English flag, hence the title. His sculpture, the dragon.

I went out there looking for images for the Ansel challenge. This was in front of his cabin the last time I was out there. And no, he was not there that day, or maybe he was watching.

Don't know the story, but liked the picture.. particularly the toning and light.

Keep coming back to this one - I don't know what to make of it, esp in terms of the challenge, but I do like it.

Confined, the dragon is becoming impatient. And yes, this is sharp enough!

I like the bold composition and areas of tone (sorry I wish I had better terminology).

Shooting from inside to the bright outside is a unique take on AA style. The 10 camera stop dynamic range of that situation would have been frustrating to efforts to dodge and burn away in the darkroom. To my eyes, there is good sharpness and detail in the sculpted wood and burlap window treatment. But, the clarity and sharpness fall off in the window panes and frame, indicating a too shallow DOF. I do find detail in the darkest shadows.
