Just out walkin' the dog and saw this. I wanted to do something that was not the typical scenic-wooded-mountain/hill shot. I like the line in this shot and that the brackish water looks so nice reflecting the bright blue sky.

develop in Lightroom. crop, save for web.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

This is definitely a different take on the challenge, and a risky one at that. But sometimes it's better to take risks and get a lower score, than simply shoot for and churn out images that the vox populi will love.

Clearly this image resonates with people living in urban CA, so I can't squabble with them about what people are apt to see! However the lines of the waterway is a little too much, even though the horizon is at a third and not halving the image in two. Good use of leading lines, but I would have liked to see more of an angle to add dynamism and interest to the shot. The centredness is just too predictable. In terms of pp, not bad, though looking at the shadows I'd guess you shot early afternoon when the sun is at its most unforgiving. This was an Advanced challenge so you may have been able to dodge out the glare on the concrete wall at right. Finally, don't be afraid to make the most of the dimensions allowed and go for as large an image as possible. Never hurts.

Hope this ciritique has been useful, feel free to PM me

Susan

Fantastic symmetry, far too common in suburbia.

Looks like Florence!

I like the blue water, which provides a nice contrast to the dingy white cement and brown scrub brush. Too bad there wasn't more water running through to provide a cleaner look to the "river" because that blue is wonderful.

See, now this is what most normal folks get to see - not the sweeping expanses of gorgeous vistas... Nice change of pace with this!

The main point of interest here, the concrete ditch does not make me want to "step into the picture". The composition concept is good, just not a good subject for it.

In an urban landscape.... Very creative
