I agree with Jon, great lighting but might look better without the bottom. Also, is your white ball yellow?

I really like how the shot is lit but would crop the bottom of the shot to lose the ball.

Thanks for the comments/critique.

Cue ball is yellowish from age. This table was moved from my parents house. It has been recovered numerous times but the balls are original and approaching 30 years old.

The background... it is the insulation covering the basement wall.

I know the background horrible but I couldn't get my original concept to work , didn't have time to fix it in post (kids take up too much time), so I just went with it. Wish I would have thought of the black backdrop but I was beginning to get a bit frustrated that I couldn't get to where I wanted to go.

Perhaps I will re-shoot this or touch it up in PS when I have some time.

The background looks like insulation found in a basement covering the foundation. I have the same issue in my little home studio. I actually used it in this shot . It just needs to be muted because of the glare it throws.

The cue ball looks a bit yellow. From the gel? cool shot. Inspired me to add a pool shot later on in the challenge. Keep em' coming.

Agreed on the background. I am curious as to what you used? I think a black simple bg would work but also an environmental bg thrown out of focus would add interest as well.

I like most everything about this except that background - it's ugly and too close, IMO. Throw up a black sheet/backdrop and this would be perfect.
