Great Horned Owl, Bubo virginianus

A male GH Owl at the other nest in my area.

Owls don't build their own nests. This is a "witch's broom" in a Ponderosa Pine. The other nest is built in an old Magpie nest. The owls do come back to the same places year after year, but don't reproduce every year. No owlets last year because of the extended snow into June.

I live on the park boundary.... on purpose. It's a big help to be in close proximity to the wildlife and the landscape.
