The contest allows entries from any US national park or national monument in two categories: Landscape or Wildlife.

Nikon affecionados might balk at the Canon equipment prizes, though. LOL!

Thanks for posting this. I didn't see any rules regarding post-processing limitations besides jpeg size. Did I miss something?

Must be from a single image, no composites or montages; also no logos. "Entries that have been previously published or won a prize in any other contest are ineligible."

It says the image has to be from a single capture. It also says "Entries that have been previously published or won a prize in any other contest are ineligible.". It also specifies 900x600 max dimensions and 500Kb max filesize. I see nothing regarding PP other than the single image rule.

Contest is open to USA residents over 21, and to images taken in any National Park/National Monument in the U.S. That would include Cape Cod National Seashore :-)

Robt.

"echo"....

Did you notice how the judging works. You get up to 25 points for originality, artistic composition, photographic technique, and technical execution.

A few questions and thoughts:
1) originality plays a 25% role. I don't think a pretty shot of Mt. Rainier is going to cut it here. Just brainstorming.
2) Who wants to take a stab at photographic technique? I under stand the technical execution, but technique? Would that be such things as long exposure, filters, etc.?

Could also be "processing technique"?

I read the rules, but didn't catch the following:

How many pictures can you enter?
Do the pictures have to be taken during the contest dates?
06/09/2006 12:45:53 PM · #13
Only open to US residents huh??? .......Well I'll show them...Just for that I ain't taking any pics of Mounts Rushmore, St.Helen, Baker or Rainier... or any other of those similar type locations.

Seriously, I am looking forward to seeing some incredible images.

After writing several letters to canon I found out that photos taken at National Wild and Scenic Rivers and National Forest lands are also eligible.

Did they happen to mention National Wildlife Refuges? I live about 30 minutes from the Ottawa NWR, and have been photographing there frequently, lately. I didn't see it on the list of Parks and Monuments.

They did not say specifically that National Wildlife refuges were included but I would guess they are. I was able to get the correct email address by writing an email to photoworkshop.com and they forwarded the question to Canon.

Thanks, I sent them an e-mail also, to ask about NWR's.

I agree, Canada has some very beautiful parks...and it looks like Canda has a few contests, too! (Of course, you could always visit the pretty places the U.S. has to offer...)

Google Search The first hit Ontario Parks contest is even giving away a Pentax *istDL!
=)

Thanks for the heads-up--I must admit, I sometimes think about not telling DPCers about contests, since it's bound to keep me from winning when some excellent photog here submits!
...Yeah, sure, that's why I don't win... :-\

I've been to some nice parks in Alaska and Montana. But you have to actually be a resident to enter, no?
