The results of the 'Indoor Macro Shot III' challenge have been recalculated, due to the disqualification of the former 4th place image for failing to provide a valid original. Congrats to our new honourable mentions!

I provided an original, kind of confused here. Also wondering why the results have never been recalculated from Cliche's and Sayings III to give me my blue ribbon.

It ended less than 19 hours ago. Isn't there a 48 hour submission window?

I think that indicates there's something wrong with the original submitted. Ronnie, maybe do a double-check to make sure you submitted the correct file?

I submitted the RAW file, you can not get much more original than that.
01/20/2014 07:05:34 PM · #6
Anyone able to tell me who I need to PM to straiten this out?
01/20/2014 07:22:58 PM · #7
The files you submitted all indicate modification by Lightroom 4.4, and the modification date is different from the original, so these cannot be the "original files straight from the camera."

I just figured it out. I exported the RAW but forgot to change from exporting a JPG to exporting the original. Any way I can send in the RAW?

Upload it as an attachment to a ticket with an explanation. I can't promise it will be "fixed" (or how fast if it is), but it should at least exempt you from any potential penalties should you somehow incur another DQ ... at least you know that the voters considered it a top photo!

ok thanks. Recently switched to LR and still getting use to it.

What happened to the second place? it says "This image has been removed."

That's DPCish for "Tie"

Wtf, would you please confirm with the entrant before you dq. This is not the first time a decision has been rushed and wrong.

The photographer was notified that there was a problem with the originally-submitted "original" and a re-upload requested.

The re-uploaded file then also was not a valid original, so the entry was DQ'd. It is the responsibility of the photographer to make sure that the correct file is uploaded, especially if previously-informed that there might be a problem.

May I point out that this is not the first time a criticism of the SC has been rushed into print without knowledge of the entire situation ...

+1

Nothing against we the people but after last SC meeting, they did prove they also are human... and I don't think they would do any big mistake like "rushing" conclusion thinking they would not want to hear complains like this from us!

Although, I would prefer to hear from manic a few lines other than just Paul defending the whole SC crew, unless if it was designed that way!

I'm just checking things out and answering on my own ... manic should be in bed by now ... ;-)

It's not that big a deal, but it's a real PITA to have to undo something like this -- it's so much simpler when people follow directions -- and it doesn't particularly help to have to justify enforcing the rules as written, especially considering about how much people bitch about DQs being delayed and the next-in-line not getting their fifteen minutes full week of fame ...

If it's such a PITA then why not continue to communicate with the person? When the submitter is *surprised* that he's being DQ'd, then there's clearly a communication problem. You especially complain about using forums instead of contacting people directly. This is an egregious example of same, being done by the SC.

...

Yes, I dare to be critical of an SC action, and I dare to be critical of ribbon winners I don't like. I fear not the focus point and similar harpies.

I need to clarify this, and it gives me an opportunity to make a point I've been wanting to make for a while now.

By "ribbon winners" I mean photos, not people. I don't know most of the people here, and I don't have pre-set opinions about them. Some of us make beautiful images some of the time, and I like to talk about the images I find beautiful. I'm not interested in promoting (or denigrating) factions or styles.

I don't think anyone stopping you other than expressing their own point of view... I actually would vote for you to become a SC... No joke!

You jest, surely? Not the denigrating part, the promoting part.

I hope that everything clears out and your entry gets reinstated!

Must be honest - the ribbon is important and is the point of the site. Those ribbons are sought after!

Kobba - I hope this is resolved soon. And it would be cool if Cliche's and Sayings III is recalculated.

so the idea is that if we have first place tie then there is no second place where as technical third place is actually a second place, right? Also if we have three photographs on first place tie then does this mean that there is no third place either? if I apply same logic and one day we have 50 tie then what would happen? on the other end if we have a tie on third place then what? :)

I fully agree. Kobba, have you sent in an administrative ticket about that blue ribbon? It might help to get L's attention.. (Use a good title like "HEY LANGDON GIMME MY BLASTED BLUE RIBBON DARNIT!")
