That's true, but you'd think they'd at least be curious about it and would have been discovered a long time ago.

They HAVE been discovered before this. The article mentions that they know these tribes are out there but have left them alone. They're "uncontacted", not "undiscovered".
But civilisation has to have "proof" of everything hence, if they do want to protect these tribes and their lifestyle, they have to intrude and prove their existance. Quite a dilemma, and possibly something that will end up hastening the exact thing that they are trying to prevent.

For a people used to making their life in the jungle, using stealth in hunting for example, I'm sure they wouldn't have any trouble getting close enough to "civilisation" to observe enough to know they don't want it :)

Some savvy entrepreneur will probably build a hotel nearby and cut a nice wide road through the jungle to the village and give eco-tourists a photo tour in a nice safe Humvee.

I don't doubt the existance of these tribes.

I suspect something along these lines, though more of a "misrepresentation" than fully staged "hoax". They may have gone to one of the tribes that they do have contact with and arranged it; those still exist too, despite us.

Seriously, I don't think the story is a hoax since I just got a text message from the chief asking the gods for cheeseburgers and a large order of fries.

Additionally, if it is not a hoax, then we certainly cannot rule out the existence of Bigfoot and Godzilla.

And one last thought: If anyone ever used to watch "Malcolm in the middle" there was that one episode where a guy was living in between the display shelves of a drug store for 3 years and when Malcolm's mom caught him she said "You don't get to live off the grid!" - I think that is relevant and applicable here. ...as are many quotes from American sitcoms in any given situation.

seriouly thogh i've always wonderd what it would be like to just live off the land. it must give you a wonderful scence of harmony. i cant even go camping without a cooler full of hotdogs and a boom box

I am finding this entire idea fascinating. My daughter Marianela (many of you know about her because of her recent accident and the fund raising that happened in the DPC community) was born in the Achuar tribe of the Amazon Jungle. Her history until age 3 was among this tribe and she still has the facial scars common among the tribe members. I will be following this very closely.
