Ok here's one for Metz users.
I was discussing flashes with a guy in the store where I bought my camera (and sold 2 grand US worth of camera gear to a customer a month before) and he told me that he used a Metz because everyone can borrow it with the suitable adaptor.
Now that's a pretty good use, but what are the other benefits to using a Metz Machine?
I asked him, but as we were chatting in Chinese, there were a few things I missed that I didn't quite catch.
What would you say would be the primary advantage of using a Metz flash.
Please keep it in context with someone who plans to buy and often recommends the Sigma 500DG Super.
The store clerk told me that the Metz has more adjustment potential...
What about stroboscopic functionality? |

They look sweet. How's that for an intelligent response?!
But seriously, one of the reasons I picked the Metz 76 is its range. 24-105 mm. (20mm with the diffuser).
The 76 also uses a monster battery that fits in the bottom of the side bracket flash. You get 135 pops per charge, the 360$ P50 powerpack only gets you 150 pops and you have to lug the secondary battery with you... not worth it for 15 more pops (to me). |

The 54MZ-4 also has a secondary fill flash on it so when you bounce it the main flash off the ceiling, the secondary flash will fill the shadows.
You should PM prof_fate if he doesn't post here, I'm sure he can tell you all about his and why he uses it instead of another flash.

Exactly! The 76 has that feature too- should be nice!

I have a Metz 54-mz4 that I use with my Canon 20D.
I love this flash for a variety of reasons:
1. It has E-TTL (electronic through the lens) metering for fill-flash outdoors.
2. An Auto Mode that has dead on exposure for indoors
3. The ability to switch foot adapters for different camera's (as already mentioned)
4. Controls are set with a single dial, making switching modes extremely quick and easy.
5. It has a lot of power when you need it.
If anyone interested shoots Canon they might as well get the 54-MZ3 version, as the MZ4 version was built for nikon updates, and the MZ3 is actually cheaper, I didn't know this until after I purchased mine.
If you do buy one for your Canon setup, make SURE you buy a foot adapter that is the M3 version, the M2 had problems with the E-TTL that they resolved in the M3 foot.

I guess if it manages to meter dead on, it doesn't really matter which one, but I was wondering if it uses E-TTL I or E-TTL II by Canon?
