I use Photoshop a hell of a lot ('scuse the pun) and often go to select a brush size by clicking randomly at the right end of the scale (large). Invariably - and more frequently than I imagine would be just by chance - I get a brush size of 666 pixels.

Hmm. And I've got this funny mark in my hairline that I found the other day...

Not to dispel any Satanic theories, but that's just one of the default brush size slider settings. When you move the slider back and forth, it jumps through a set of default numbers, rather than sliding through every single number. Probably one of the Adobe programmers thought this would be funny. :-)

Funny, my oldest daughter was just saying last night how this June 6, 2006 will be the 6 month, 6 day, 6 year - 666 ... Freaked out all her sisters!

I think that's actually the day that THE OMEN remake hits theaters. Which makes sense...

This exact same thing used to happen to me many years ago when I was in college. It seemed like every time I looked at the clock, it was 11:11. It used to really freak me out, and my friends teased me a lot about it.

Strangely, it doesn't happen to me anymore. I have no idea why. Anyone have any theories?

I think that's kinda like this:

When I see a make/model of car I like, I seem to notice it everywhere after that. It's kinda like everyone has one all of a sudden. So I think the license plates starting with NFZ thing could possibly be like that. You probably subconsciously see the others, but your mind calls attention to NFZ, so you take actual notice of it.

Just a theory. :)

Those letters are based on where the license plates were issued, so of course you're seeing the same letter sequence repeatedly.

Christian Fundamentalist maybe?

...

I used to get really freaked out about this too. I don't anymore, because this stuff only has weight in your own mind.

Believing that something like a man-made time system has a hold on your destiny is a little silly, I decided.

That, and I became a fundamentalist ;O)

Okay.. a little creepy...

I was just thinking about watching the noon news so I looked at the clock and it was 1:11.

You're contagious! hehe

Yeah, I kinda assumed that, and I suppose I'd fall into that category too. But I'm wondering what people mean when they say "Fundamentalist" when they themselves are not - whatever that is... So, for those who do not consider yourselves to be one, what is a fundamentalist?

(no intent here to be contrary, just curious)

I'll promise to answer that as long as this doesn't turn into a religion/non-religion "my-way-is-the-only-way" discussion.

Name: Fundamentalism

Founder: No one person can be credited with founding Fundamentalism. Nor does any single group comprise the history of the movement. The label `Fundamentalist' is used as both anadjective and a noun. Accordingly, trying to understand the phenomena requires more than knowing a few names and dates. Curtis Lee Laws, editor of a conservative publication entitled Watchman-Examiner is credited with coining the term "fundamentalism."

Origin of the Concept: The term `fundamentalism' has its origin in a series of pamphlets published between 1910 and 1915. Entitled "The Fundamentals: A Testimony to the Truth," these booklets were authored by leading evangelical churchmen and were circulated free of charge among clergymen and seminarians. By and large, fundamentalism was a response to the loss of influence traditional revivalism experienced in America during the early years of the twentieth century. This loss of influence, coupled with the liberalizing trends of German biblical criticism and the encroachment of Darwinian theories about the origin of the universe, prompted a response by conservative churchmen. The result was the pamphlets. In 1920, a journalist and Baptist layman named Curtis Lee Laws appropriated the term `fundamentalist' as a designation for those who were ready "to do battle royal for the Fundamentals."

Date of Birth: Second decade of the 20th century

Birth Place: The United States

Year Founded: Concept coined in 1920

Sacred or Revered Texts :

The Bible is the sacred text of the Christian Fundamentalists. Indeed, if there is one single thing which binds Fundamentalists together, it is their insistence that the Bible is to be understood as literally true. Further, Fundamentalists see themselves as the guardians of the truth, usually to the exclusion of others' interpretation of the Bible. Fundamentalism in other faith traditions similarly proclaims guardianship of truth.

In South Africa all South African Cricket Players are afraid of the numbers 3 and 0. This is after the recent 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Aussies.

anyway - You guys have some real issues. The only number (time) I see way too often is the time that I have to wake up to go to work (3H30 in the morning).

Interesting though - I agree with the one about the cars - If I wanna buy (or just bought) a new car - suddenly I notice the same make all over the place. The number thing I have never expereinced, but I think it is the same as the car thing.

Wonder what will happen on 6 June 2006? South Africa has got a very big number of Satanic supporters. ONE VERY WEIRD GROUP OF PEOPLE!!!

Wow, Thanks. I didn't know any of that history. I've always wondered where the term came from.

And you are right, this is no place for a religious discussion, especially regarding who is right and who is wrong.

I actually did a science experiment on this very topic once. I got a couple of people to allow me to video tape them while working at their desks between 12 and 3 o'clock. On average they all looked at their clocks (I had moved them so they had to turn around to see them, and so that it was obvious from the video that they were looking at the clock.) Between 25-35 times, more often toward the end of the hour, and the times they most remembered looking at the clock were 1:11, 2:22, 2:40 (5 minutes before the final school-bell rang) and at 2:54. They all looked at the clocks often, but they just remembered these times more. I think that times that are inherently memorable (1:11, 2:22, 3:33, etc.) lend to the feeling that one is seeing those numbers more often.

I know that I myself seem to remember looking at the clock at 9:11 much more often after 9/11, but how many times must I have seen the clock at that time and forgotten about it before 9/11/01?

I'm going to see if I can find all my old papers about this,

and I'm not going to hold out hope that my guardian angel is trying to contact me via a Timex.

I also think the people at this site:

need to go rent the movie Pi and purchase a power drill.

The similar happens when I'm reading a book I really like or hear a news report that interests me. An example is I was reading a book where the main portion of stuff happened in Colorado. For the next month I kept hearing people talk about Colorado, I'd see folks with Colorado liscence plates ALL the time (I live in Oregon), news articles would come up and have a reference to Colorado.. Colorado would suddenly be all over the place.

Happens to me all the time.

A little off topic, but did you hear the study that found that 666 may have been misinterpreted? Some people are saying 616 is the true sign of the beast.

I thought I was the only one that had the freaky 1:11 or 11:11 thing going on. One day I was talking to my daughter and her husband has the same thing happen to him. Now I see in this discussion that we are not alone. This is even more freaky than I realized!!!! Maybe we ALL need help.
