I'm trying to design an ad for an awareness campaign for work. This is not my thing, I'm not a designer. We got an offer that if I take the photo for Pet of the Week for the local paper they will run a free ad for the spca each week.

Have the idea but only have ps7 to create it.

This is what I've come up with so far but don't like the font. Used chaucer. Really need some help here......what would look good!!!!

thanks
sue

Lessons learned sofar tonight.....save your editing in ps format so you don't have to go back and recreate the entire ad if you want to make a change!!!!!

Version 2

edited to say........would also value opinions if you feel that this will be an effective ad. We need to raise awareness and funds

I like the fonts in this one much better than the original. Here's a slight modification and rearrangement of the messages that I think might be a more effective...

I do like the negative version Welland.....really makes the dog's eyes stand out. People would notice.

More effective and gets the message across better Ken. Did you use the Times New Roman font with that?

Idea no 2. Could get 'the model' to hold a $2 coin in her mouth but you couldn't see it!

edited to say I'll be using the first pic, but we've got the opportunity to have several different ads to rotate weekly. I want them to look different so people notice

Sue I think the #1 picture has the most impact. The subject [dog] has a look of depression he is closed in by a fence and seems lonely. I believe that picture would have a more dramatic effect for this type of campaign.

I was trying for the softer look in that one......maybe a little too soft.

These are the others I thought of using.

think your doing great with the new font and negative version. I would probably stick with the sad, behind the fence dogs if you want to make people feel like helping them. I like kpriest moving of the words too.

Good luck.

I am a graphic designer by trade and I like this one quite a bit..no matter what anyone says the font can make or break the ad..so use your fonts wisely : )))

I agree with fotoshootme, but (might just be my work monitor) the high contrast in the text makes the photograph look soft.

Just my 2c

I like the black border though.

I like the white text with black....please (being in the press industry) make sure that you are using 100% black or building this in grey scale or you will be unhappy with the final effect. It will be lighter and muddier than you want it to be.

Also.....leave all of your text as text layers and save the product as a PDF. This will leave your text as vector and will not be soft. If you flatten it as a tif or jpg, the text will be pixelated like the image and not have a crisp edge!

Good luck on your project!

We're going with a combination of Faidoi's idea of the negative imaging(white letters on black b/g) and the editing suggested by Ken, together with my image. Thankyou all so much for the help and suggestions.
