Does "architecture" encompass things such as sculptures, statues and fountains, or does it have to be buildings only?

The challenge wording doesn't limit you to buildings by any means. That said, your image should portray 'architecture' -- and remember, it's your fellow photographers you have to convince, since they're the ones who can recommend your submission for disqualification.

I'd say yes, sculptures, statues, and fountains count, this is with reference to definition 2b below, which pretty much leaves the whole challenge wide open.

I don't think architecture even has to be human, bird nests, spider webs, ant hills, basically anything built by design should count, at *least* in a metaphorical sense!

We've got so many people marking down on technicalities... I was afraid to take an indoor night shot! Can we all promise to be nice to people taking risks this time around, to spice up the challenge? :)

Thanks a lot, that is all very helpful. I especially like the "biological" (for lack of a better word) suggestions.

I'm sure, though, that no matter what I take a picture of, I'll get a comment about how I didn't follow the guidelines of the challenge = )
