Neil, in most cases, no. But it's not the end result where the differnce is important. When an image is for a high contrast situation, or where lighting is an issue, (as it was in this case for me), having a raw file to work with makes a world of difference in the final product.

Irfanview is fast to download, works on any machine, will convert any of your Nikon files to TIFF for CS5 to use. Wonderful program, free.

Do they have a 32-bit version? Old laptop...

What OS does your system run?

As long as it's later than Windows 3.2 it should work fine ...

I was more asking because that is an obvious limitation for the Adobe product, and would handily explain what was happening.

Repeated freezing could indicate a bad stick of RAM or a corrupt driver of some kind?

Not sure what all the glitches I'm experiencing are all about. I haven't used it in a very long time. OS is win 7. But there's definitely a ram issue. SAW overwork at all unless I resize prior to saving

The thing is I'm on vacation. With my sweetie. If I wanted to sit in my room and deal with this all day, I might be able to send one of my files to one of you guys (THAT would take all day because the only program I have that can read them crashes every 20 seconds and I haven't selected the file I want to enter...). It looks like this challenge (tailor made for my travels) will either go unentered, or with on of my D90 images, none of which I feel is "worthy".

hmmm (thinking out loud)... I wonder how sweet she is being to her sweetie when she's frustrated with Adobe?

;)

Just think, you too will be able to laugh about this someday. :D
