Yes, definitely - but "I'd" take it a step further and do a High Pass filter at about 8-10 Pixels>Soft Light>Mask>Control I (invert)>Control B (Brush) and brush to sharpen and reveal ONLY the eyes...(of course you'd have to enlarge/zoom in)...that small step will make the eyes pops just a touch more and doesn't effect any other parts of the picture...

but I do see your edit as an improvement.

You know, the more I look at this, the more I think a good crop would help a lot. Keep it off-center, but take out everything below the white band, and above her head.

Sooo, I just did the high pass filter as you suggested, and I love it! lol

I commented in the original image, she can be a great portrait subject and the funny face she is doing this time looking into the camera just reinforces my opinion

It is good to learn good post processing , but a good image regarding composition / impact looks good even a thumbnail size ... adding good PP to a so so image doesn't gain you much ... also I have seen images do very well with post processing that have obvious artifacts introduced with to much clarity or sharpening and the majority of voters just ignore those technical details ...
