NIKON D300
29214
19% of this model's expected shutter life

I've had the camera 2 years and 8 months so it should last quite a few years yet.

Hmm, I'm a little skeptical about the accuracy of this. The file names of current images from my K20D end in numbers around 3300 and I've already been to 9999 and started over. So I'd have expected it to reveal a shutter count of 13,300. But I came back with 7,885. Doesn't seem right.

If you've ever used a card which has been used in another camera without reformatting first, it can reset your image-naming sequence, i.e. "roll over" and restart numbering files before reaching 10,000 exposures the first time.

No, it's not that. Until recently we've only had the one body in the household and I am certain there's been no swapping of cards between cams. Plus I routinely reformat cards as soon as I've downloaded images. I also haven't 'restored settings' in the camera, which I guess might cause it to beging counting over. Oh well.

PhotoME shows 7885 as well. Did you ever send the camera in for maintenance or repair?

This is resized, but should have the original EXIF -- it's the same one I tried to submit to the website, and for which I previously posted partial data

That is really funky. I didn't think that there were any cameras nowadays that didn't record the shutter count.

Like all other shutter counters out there - it doesnt work on the 1dmk3 - I sent a RAW to it and it told me I had taken 1743 images with it - unlikely as I have had this camera for over 2 years and shot roughly 70+ weddings with it. 101743 is probably closer to the true number.

6373, 6%...so I have a long way to go before it's close to its expiry date, then again only had it about a year or so.

Nice program, even better if you have a supported body...

On a Canon 5d mk I the folder count starts at #100 Correct?
As I understand it, the total images shot can be figured out from the folder you are currently on.
basically 10,000 images per folder.

I'm on image 5765 on folder #123 (or 22 full folders of 9,999 images each and #23 currently at 5,765)
If I understand it all right, thats about image 225,000.

I had hoped I was closer to 100k....

Has anyone confirmed the 5d mkI folder count with a Canon service image count?

How about just using the camera's menu? For my E-3:
How to check Shutter Count in Olympus E-3
1. Turn on the power switch
2. Open CF card door
3. Press "menu" and "OK" buttons simultaneously
4. Press the menu nav arrow arrow buttons in the following sequence:
- WB (Up)
- ISO (Down)
- Metering Icon (Left)
- AF (Right)
5. Press the shutter release
6. Press menu nav buttons menu nav buttion AF (Right) again

Page 2 screen will appear, R.......stands for the shutter count.

There are also a bunch of other codes for things like number of times the flash fired, number of mirror lock-ups, serial number, etc.

My Canon 30D is on directory 526 image 4394. Somehow this does not seem feasible. If the directories started out at 100, and incremented every 9,999 images, that would mean that there would have been 4,264,394 images taken with this camera. I really don't think it is possible, let alone likely. What am I figuring in correctly?

This is how my Canon works -- see my previous post.

So far possible ways in which the folder count increments before 10,000 actuations we've noted here include using a card used in another camera without reformatting first, or resetting the camera settings to factory defaults.

I'm pretty sure the 30D (if I remember correctly) creates a new folder every thousand images instead of ten thousand. That, or you have been very trigger happy ;)

My Pentax creates a new folder name for each day that has pictures taken.

Nearly broke in!

I can't tell if:

A) Canon's life expectancies are set too low

B) I've been way, way too lucky

C) Canon should give me a free Mark IV in exchange for testimonials

D) All the above ;-)

35778 for my Pentax K10D

which according to the data on the Shutter Life Database //www.olegkikin.com/shutterlife/ is only 25% of the average life expectancy.

Does the camera need to be plugged into the computer to use this? I'd like to know mine, but I'm not sure where the wires are since I never use them.
